Training at BCA

BCA Orientation

Available seats – 15 Training Fee: FREE!

Learn about Brockton Community Cable Television (BCCT), Brockton Community Access (BCA), and access television in general. It is important that all individuals seeking access to any BCA facilities (channel time, equipment use) appreciate the history of public access television and BCA/BCCT. Understanding BCA/BCCT’s policies, procedures, and culture are essential for a successful and mutually beneficial relationship between the community and BCA. Students who successfully complete the BCA Orientation will leave with a better understanding of how access television can positively impact the community.

Orientation is mandatory & a prerequisite to all other classes.

Studio Production

Available seats – 12 Training Fee: $20

Students will learn about how to setup and successfully create an in studio production with a host and guest(s). Students will learn about studio positions and equipment (studio cameras, tripods, lighting, and set design) as well as many shooting techniques.  After rotating through all areas, students must demonstrate proficiency in each area during a project and scheduled class project and mock productions during class time.

Prerequisite: Orientation

Control Room

Available seats – 12 Training Fee: $20

Students receive hands on training of control room positions and equipment Students will learn about the video switcher, character generator, & how to make minor lighting adjustments. Students will learn what makes a good director.)  After rotating through all areas, students must demonstrate proficiency in each area during a project and mock productions during class time.

Prerequisite: Studio Production

Field Production

Available seats – 8 Training Fee: $20

Learn about how to setup and successfully shoot a field production. Learn some basic shooting techniques, how to capture good audio & the field lighting requirements. Students will learn specifics about how to use BCA cameras, and the significance behind some of the many settings available. At the end of this class students will take a test certifying them to reserve and borrow BCA portable equipment.

Prerequisite: Orientation

Final Cut Pro Editing

Seats available – 8 per session Training Fee: $35

Learn the basics of non-linear editing by understanding editing theory and learning practical applications. Students will capture footage working from a list, then assemble timeline, apply transitions, music, create text, and output a final project to DVD and digital file.  Students will practice using pre-shot footage, and may also edit student projects could even air on BCA.

Prerequisite: Studio/Control Room or Field Production
